Type Tuesday: Numbered Chairs

8

27.4.11

Type Tuesday is a little closer to home today! These chairs were made by my granddad for us grandkids when we were little (the table is used elsewhere in our house), so I was happy to scoop them up from my parents when the boys were born. After a coat of paint, and adding some numbers (with a Sharpie marker!), they currently line the back of the couch that separates our kitchen eating area and family room. As the chairs have been used over the years, the Sharpie’d numbers have aged nicely so that they look like they’ve always been there. And, if I wanted to make them look crisp and new, I’d just have to color them in again!

Waiting

12.4.11

The boys and I spent this afternoon dancing and singing to Bedouin Soundclash while making cookie dough. It was a rare moment of perfection. I savored every laugh, jump, hug, and squeal. Before we started I typed in “Best Gluten Free Chocolate Chip Cookies” into Google, and these cookies by Gluten-Free Girl and the Chef were the ones that called my name. The recipe was featured on Oprah.com a couple of years back, and is the gluten free version of David Leite’s famous cookies. How can I go wrong? Well, I now have a large batch of chocolate chip cookie dough in the fridge. Waiting. You see, it seems I missed the part where the cookie dough needs to be chilled for 36 HOURS!!! Oops. Talk about delayed gratification….  but then again… maybe not.

UPDATE: Those were some really good cookies, and one of my favorite recent memories.

Bedroom Door Initials

31.3.11

I was given these letters at one of my baby showers for the wall of our nursery. I loved that they spelled baby in French, a reminder of our stay in France. They were up in the nursery of our first home, but never made it onto the wall after we moved into house #2… and now the boys aren’t even close to being babies anymore, so I really can’t hang them now, can I! And yet, I couldn’t bring myself to give them away!

My scroll saw savvy dad helped me change the e into a c! Thank you dad!!

And then I enlisted the boys to choose a color, and paint their letter. The b got a light grey, and the c got a coat red… and then navy.

What do you think? It adds a little interest to the plain slab doors, don’t you think? The boys are so excited about their “new” doors!

Weekend Wrap Up: Valentine’s Day

4

13.2.11

There are certain things that make Saturday mornings complete around here. Pancakes (gluten free, of course), PJ’s, coffee for him, a latte for me, my fuzzy socks, and family adventures. Saturday is our day to just be together, with nothing scheduled other than an adventure of some sort. This weekend the pancakes were heart-shaped, using the Norpro heart egg/pancake ring. Since the handle swivels, I can use it as a decoration after the pancakes are made, lol. Okay, maybe not. But they did remind me of these cute photo clips I saw here.

Today’s adventure involved swimming and making Valentine’s. And, of course, what romantic Valentine’s weekend would be complete without a group date night of go karting! (that was sarcasm, in case that’s not your language : ) But seriously, it was great! So fast it was freaky, but so much fun! Hope you’re enjoying your weekend too!

Kicking it Karate Style

2

10.2.11

My sweet 6 year old just got his gi (karate uniform) after a couple weeks of proving to us that he really wanted to stay with the karate class that he chose. We took him to try out a couple of different martial arts classes at various places to see what he liked, and he chose the class that was “more challenging”. The fact that he’s choosing the challenging option makes me very happy! He is SO excited and proud of his uniform. He slept in it last night, and he brought it to school for show and tell today. It’s amazing how much he’s learned and improved in just a couple of weeks!

As you can see in the background, Jason was cooking dinner when we got home from all the running around. Scrambled eggs – dinner of champions. : )

(Had to make it black and white, because of course the picture with the best expression on his face was the one where I forgot to turn off the flash.)

Weekend Wrap Up: He’s 4!

31.1.11

We’re winding down from a beautiful weekend filled with trains. Our sweet little boy turned four this weekend, (I still can’t believe it!!) and he requested a Thomas themed party. What a great third year this has been for him – a year without gluten! Who would have guessed that it could have made such a huge difference to our whole family. Now, if we could just slow this train down for a little while and enjoy every second of this sweetness?

Sledding on Burnaby Mountain

1

28.11.10

We went sledding with the boys on Burnaby Mountain recently. To say that it’s a popular spot for sledding is an understatement. For us, it was a location decided on primarily because it’s about fifteen minutes from home, which worked in our favor when the littlest member of our family decided that he just did not want to sled. Too many people, way too steep. Looking back, I suppose we should have started him off with something a little less steep… but just look at that view.

Have a great weekend everyone!
