Spring Break DIY: Wire Sculpting

9

15.3.12

At a doctor’s appointment recently, my oldest was entertaining himself with a paperclip, bending it into shapes to pass the time. When we got home I found these images online, and was able to show him examples of amazing things that can be made with wire, skill and some creativity.

Just to give you an idea of age appropriateness, my seven year old was able to make this bone by himself, but my five year old would have needed help if he had been home. Supplies for this DIY project are easy, you just need some thin wire and a pair of pliers! I tried to make a chair and found out that constructing anything three dimensional was harder than I’d imagined. That’s where skill would come in handy! Regardless, it was so much fun to play with a new medium! I’ll definitely try this again!

Here are some of the inspiring pics that got us started – aren’t they amazing!

Oh my….. my, my, my those are the most adorable things EVER!!! I am going to try one of those. I love that chair!!! I think you should give it to Meesh 😉 Did you end up getting the measuring cups?

Your wire sculptures are awesome, and what a great idea! I just played with a little bit of wire in my last project, but it was no where near the creative fun you’ve shown here!

Another great idea! I love your crafts because I could actually get my 9-year-old son to do them. He’s already gotten it into his head that most crafts are for girls (a.k.a. his sisters). How did that happen?!?

LOL, I know what you mean. My boys aren’t there yet, but I still do find myself calling these “projects” just in case they should revolt. 😉

Hi there, am commenting from Wales, where I stumbled onto your page, after typing in ‘Simple Art Projects for kids’ and boy am I glad I did.
Will be looking at your page often now (am a Primary Schoolteacher by the way – always looking for new ideas to try with my class!) Sadly,my three children are all grown up now (22, 24, 26) Maybe I’ll get to try these with my grandkids one day! 🙂

    Keep up the good work,
    Patty
