A belated Happy Valentine’s Day! We’ve had a sick boy on our hands for the last week, thanks to food poisoning from some nasty sushi, so we stayed close to home this Valentine’s Day. We decided to watch the Academy Award winning movie Amour, subtitles and all. Sounds like the perfect romantic movie, right? Those of you that have seen the movie are probably laughing right now. (spoiler alert!) Those that haven’t should know that it ends with the main character suffocating his wife to end her misery. Not exactly the type of love story we expected. What did your Valentine’s Day look like?
On a happier note, I’ve been craving all white walls for a long, long time, thanks to my Pinterest inspiration boards, and we finally committed! I’m thrilled to have the fresh white walls throughout the main area of our home. If you’re thinking about switching to an all-white interior space, you should read this article that my friend Maria wrote a while back. It has some good tips on things you might want to consider. In honor of Valentine’s Day I framed a smaller version of the “Home Is Where The Heart Is” print in a black frame for some contrast. I have had multiples of that frame kicking around waiting to be used ever since Superstore cleared out some frames eons ago… I think I picked them up for $4 each, including the white matte! I knew they’d come in handy one day! And it feels good to start the weekend with one less thing on the floor in my office.
This is a little preview of what we are going to get up to this weekend! (Ignore the mess and the furniture, as it is all in transition.) Thanks to Photoshop I was able to play around with some ideas and get the okay from Cole before we buy the paint for the last wall in his room! We’ve had the rest of his room painted for quite a while, but we couldn’t agree what to do with this wall until now. What do you think about the navy stripes? I can’t wait to see how they turn out!
Are you tackling any projects this weekend? Whatever you’re up to I hope you have a good one.
What a week! Hubby’s been out of town, window installation was in full effect, and I’ve been sick. Thankfully the kids had summer camp this week. So, while they were off having fun, I was able to catch up on work, deal with contractors and spend some time crashed on the couch with a cup of tea and my favorite magazines. But, of course, time spent flipping through home decor magazines is bound to inspire change. So, I brought some pretty pink hydrangeas in from our yard and framed up one of my flamingo posters to finish the vignette. It makes the view from the couch that much nicer.
We’ll be celebrating my lovely sister-in-law’s big number birthday this weekend, and a family reunion too! Can’t wait! How are you spending your weekend? Whatever you’re up to, I hope it’s a good one!
I don’t know about you, but this time of year just seems so busy! The boys only have 12 more days of school left! Thankfully, our five days a week of baseball will be ending soon too! Bring on summer!
I designed two cards to give to the teachers in our life, and thought I’d share them as a printable in my Etsy shop for those of you have yet to pick up a card. I incorporated a talking worm into the age-old “apple for the teacher” idea to give it a new twist. I think this Worm Ampersand Animal might be having an affect on me, because I’m loving worms these days!
I added a couple new Ampersand Animal prints to the Etsy shop this week, so I thought I’d share. I am having so much fun bringing these creatures to life! I don’t usually have a thing for worms, but this little mom and baby worm may have swayed me. You know how popular birds have been over the past few years… well, birds LOVE worms, so maybe worms are the next big thing. You heard it here first!
Tonight Jason and I are off, with 20,000 of our closest friends, to see the sold out Mumford & Sons concert! It’s an outdoor concert, so I am beyond relieved that the forecast doesn’t call for rain! I’ll leave you with one of my favorites of theirs to enjoy!
I hope you enjoyed a beautiful weekend! The rain is back here in Vancouver, and I have to admit that I’m kind of glad to see it! You see, it means I get a bit of a break from driving to baseball games and practices every night! I’ve got a busy week ahead with work, so a little less juggling will make the evenings easier. And, I’ve been invited to tour West Elm’s new Summer Collection on Wednesday, so I might share some of my favorites with you later in the week.
I also wanted to let you know that there are now more Ampersand Animals running wild in the shop! They have been really fun to work on. I have lots still to list, so keep watch if you’re waiting for your favorite animal to appear. Or better yet, let me know if you have a fave animal and maybe I’ll work on that next! Which one is your favorite so far?
I hope that Monday is kind to you. Happy week ahead!
Who knew that Giddy Up would be such a great font for an ampersand / snake combination! I overcame my fear of snakes to make this limbless little guy. A huge thank you to everyone who sent such positive comments my way on the flamingo ampersand yesterday! You made my day!
Fonts are running wild over here lately! Ampersand Animals is an idea that worked its way into my head a long time ago, and did not want to leave without some attention. So, after a year of neglect I have started to feed the animals. And it has been so much fun! I thought I’d share a sneak peak of a few of them with you throughout the week… before the poster hits the shop!
Working away on custom juju hat orders lately for some Etsy customers. Hot pink, chartreuse, and turquoise are in demand right now with Spring around the corner. And for those of you confused by the name, no, they aren’t hats, they’re wall art.
Welcome back from the weekend! I’m so happy that we had a sunny Sunday here. I needed a break from all the rain!
PS – If you’re new here, and are interested in making one for yourself, you can check out the Faux Juju Hat Tutorial I posted way back when. I’ve refined the process a lot over the years, so they are a lot less “crafty” looking now, but you’ll get the general idea.
I CHOOSE YOU. I have had these three simple words on my mind for months now. Uppercase Magazine inspired me to pick up a pen and play around with hand lettering the words, which was so much fun. Those professional hand letterers make it look so easy, but I think I’d have to practice for years to achieve their effortless look. Then I played around in Illustrator, with fonts and colours and shapes, and printed one to hang on my office cork board. I’m a visual person, so that’s what I do when words won’t leave my mind. What do you do?
This one is my favourite. Two separate fonts overlapping to create something more dynamic than either font on its own, yet still retaining their own unique character. Kind of like relationships, don’t you think? And do you see how the two o’s merge to create the infinity circle? That’s my favorite part.
Speaking of my favourite things… this is my eighteenth Valentine’s Day with Jason! It’s hard to believe that I’ve known Jason for 21 years! We met at a friend’s church youth group when I was only 14. He was twenty, sarcastic, fun loving, and one of the youth leaders. (I know! The scandal of it all!) I told my junior high girlfriends that this was the man I was going to marry, but that he just didn’t know it yet. And he didn’t. But I knew, and I knew he’d figure it out eventually. He finally asked me out when I was 17. And the rest, as they say, is history. We’ve been married for nearly 15 years now, and I would choose him again in a heartbeat.
As a blogger I find that my holiday spirit arrives a little earlier in the season than it used to, thanks to all of the media events going on. As a result, my tree is already up, I’m half way done decorating, and I find myself illustrating gift tags! I had a fun time designing these to coordinate with all the red & white twine and kraft paper that I picked up at IKEA recently. I’ve updated the shop if you want to download and print these off! Or, I can do it for you!
