Dress It Up

19.5.11

Oh, how I love this room! The colors, that headboard… etc, etc….

Candice Olsen telling us how she works her magic…

Do you notice a theme yet??

Has anyone else noticed these popping up in interiors? I was watching an episode of Candace Tells All (shown above) and I fell in love with the white feather headdress that she used above the bed. I had to find one! The search was on… but, yikes!! Who would have guessed that these beauties would run you $600+!! Some stores call them Juju Hats, and others call them Cameroon headdresses. I call them a DIY project!! Stay tuned… I feel a weekend project coming on. : )

Birthday Wish List 2011

These are some of the pretty, and useful, things that I’m dreaming about…

This KitchenAid Stand Mixer, Martha Stewart Blue Collection Artisan 5 Qt. Aqua Sky (shown) or Ice Blue. Can’t decide from online pics which color would look best sitting on the kitchen counter!

These gorgeous ceramic wall tiles from Etsy seller Element Clay Studio blew me away when I saw them on Andrea’s blog. The details are amazing! I would happily fill my house with her work!!

And last but not least, this camera would be oh so much fun!! I’ve been using a Canon G9 for years now, but I want to move up to an SLR, and take a photography class too!

Those are my top 3! How about you? What’s top on your wish list right now?

Etsy Find: Ono Designs Maui

16.3.11

Before we left for our holiday to Maui, I did my research on gluten-free friendly places to eat, and treat! One of the hot spots on my radar was Ono Gelato. Turns out that they make the best gelato ever! While we sat and indulged in the gelato and air conditioning, some other items caught my eye. Aprons and bags in beautiful colors and designs were tempting me from the back wall. I was told that the owner (originally from Victoria) makes all of them and sells them on her Etsy store, Ono Designs Maui! I bought the turquoise sling bag that was calling my name, and I’m hoping that the warm, cheery pattern will bring a little spring to the Westcoast here very soon!

Type Tuesday: Kids Room Posters

22.2.11

This is the room the boys are currently sharing while we reno the little one’s bedroom. It’s a mish-mash of Ikea and hand me down furniture. All that will be changing down the road. We’ve been advised by our oldest that the alphabet poster (wrapping paper that I bought from a cute little store in Bellevue, WA and framed a couple of years ago) is no longer needed since he knows his letters. So, I’m thinking about replacement posters that will bring some typography to the mix, and a less juvenile feeling to the room. Here are some that I’ve liked for a while:

Bold & Noble (They have so many beautiful prints!!)

Have you seen any posters that you love lately? Any favorites? Maybe I’ll have to design a poster for their room myself…. hmm??

High & HELLOW: Table Lamp

21.2.11

I was reading Cameron Mcneil‘s “Ask A Designer” column in the March issue of House & Home, and the pillow he was suggesting caught me eye, since it was the same one I mentioned here. Love it! I also loved the look of Jonathan Adler’s Beatrice lamp (shown above) that he suggested, which I hadn’t seen before… but when I looked into the price I nearly fell over! $695!!! Um, maybe not meant for me. I decided that I would hunt for a lower priced alternative, and after a few trips to Winners/Homesense I found a contender!

For $59.99, a savings of more than $600!! Of course, the high end version has nicer proportions and a simpler pattern, which I really like. So, the tags are staying on while I decide…

Visiting Seattle

30.12.10

Jason and I just got back from a much needed night away in Seattle, without kids! It took us five hours to get there, since the border was a mess of holiday travelers, and we ran into a snowstorm on the way back, but it was worth it. We enjoyed the abnormal amount of uninterrupted talking, shopping, eating, and walking… by ourselves. It was wonderful. And the hotel was amazing! A little bit of luxury for one night in the recently renovated Alexis Hotel. We’ll be staying there again next time we’re in Seattle! I love boutique hotels.

My favorite part of cross border shopping is checking out the latest offerings from stores that we don’t have in Vancouver… Nordstrom Rack, for jeans and shoes, Crate & Barrel, for furniture and home, Anthropologie, for clothes, Watson Kennedy, for those beautiful treasures. What are your favorite shopping places south of the border? Am I missing any gems?

The Land of Nod, and the overwhelmingly amazing University Village, was new to me this time around, and I fell in love with The Land of Nod bunk beds and the idea of the boys sharing a room. Although I don’t know if the reality of room sharing would be as ideal as the bunk beds themselves. Anyone tried having their kids share a room before?
