Minoux

01.6.12

I discovered Minoux, a fabulous jewellery company, while shopping at Manifesto on my trip to Portland. I’m so happy that I brought one of her beautiful necklaces home with me! It’s always fun to find a trinket to remember vacations by. I love that my necklace was made in a barn in Portland, and would love to add the Skyline and Little zigzag necklaces (above) to my collection. Aren’t the little pops of color great!

I’m still working away on a post to share my favorite shops and restaurants in Portland with you. There were so many good things, so it may take a bit!

Have a fabulous weekend y’all! We have our sons baseball tournaments all weekend, and it’s my birthday on Sunday, so we’ll be busy!

Visiting Portland

14

28.5.12

I just arrived home from five fabulous days in Portland, Oregon with my friend Kelly. We hopped aboard Amtrak for the trip down and it was great! Other than the extended travel time I much prefer it to flying. I loved Portland! The people there were so friendly, and the transit was almost entirely free, and the food… I could go on and on.

I may have done some serious damage in the Macy’s shoe department. Between 35% off, no tax, and an abundance of size 11 shoes, I was destined for success. 😉

The weather was pretty similar to Vancouver… mostly rain… so I was thrilled to discover Savor Soup House in amongst all the fabulous food carts. Tasty, and with gluten free options!

We flew home in the smallest plane I’ve ever been on! I’ve never walked on the tarmac to get to my plane before! We saved the quick route home for the end of the trip – it only took an hour to get back to Vancouver!

Have you been to Portland before? Any favourite stores or restaurants? I’ll be sharing more of mine soon!

Hope you had a great weekend!

The One That Got Away

27.4.12

Are there any other Craigslist shoppers out there? I don’t check very often, unless I have something specific in mind. But occasionally I’ll check the listings just to see what’s out there and that’s when I come across things like this! A danish credenza made of walnut for a song!

It reminded me of the project that Amy did last year that I loved so much! But, as you can tell by the title, this was snatched up before I could get my hands on it. Too bad!! I was really excited about painting the drawer fronts a glossy white, like the dresser below.

Yes, I could buy this dresser at a local furniture shop for a lot more $$$, but where’s the rush in that?!! 😉

Have you ever found a great deal on Craigslist? Or one that got away?

IKEA Richmond Grand Opening

25.4.12

There is a party going on, and I thought you might like to know! After 35 years in Richmond, IKEA is celebrating the opening of a brand new store today! If you’re the lucky first-in-line you’ll be holding a $10,000 gift card!! And the first 1,000 fans after that will receive mystery envelopes!

I got to check out their inspiring new store at their media cocktail party, and also had some fun with my blogging friends. The new store is 334,000 sq.ft. so my recommendation is to wear comfortable shoes. I know I’ll be wearing runners next time! My feet still hate me. But don’t worry, if your feet get tired there are plenty of places to have a seat…

oh wait, wrong picture, hee hee. There may have been some crazy shenanigans that night… but I won’t name names. 😉 Maybe if you need to take a break you’d be better off sitting here…

You may see me there if you’re heading down, since I won a $100 IKEA gift card over at hodge:podge last week and plan on heading back to spend it! Thank you Barbara!! And a big thanks to IKEA!

WHERE: 3320 Jacombs Road, Richmond
WHEN: April 25th, 2012. Opening Ceremonies begin at 8:20am.
Doors open at 9:00am.

Flutter Flutter Find: Daiso

27.2.12

I took a field trip out to Richmond last week to visit Daiso with my friend Andi, and just have to share my finds with you! What a treat to find these tiny retro-inspired clips. They are going to make my piles of papers so much more organized, and pretty! (That’s the plan anyway. Ha!) And this beautiful little yellow bowl holds them all perfectly! Although it would also be perfect for paper clips, or jewellery, or…

Have you been before? What’s your favorite section? For those that have never been, let me know if you go, I’d love to hear what treasures you find!

I hope you had a great weekend. Happy Monday!

Ringing In The New Year!

10

07.1.12

My hubby surprised me with an iPhone for Christmas, and I’m so excited!! (And intimidated, if I’m being honest.) I have had a flip phone FOR-ever. You know, the kind where a phone is just a phone?! There seems to be so much to learn when you add a camera, music, email, etc. but I’m hoping for a fairly easy learning curve since I’m already on a Mac. Fingers crossed!

When I was in Seattle, I was searching for a case for my new phone, and instantly fell in love with the colour of this one. I love the gold & white design of this Kate Spade case… but the reviews on this were way better, and the colour makes me smile.

Speaking of color, have you heard of Pantone? As a graphic designer I rely on Pantone swatch books to show clients what colors will look like after they are printed. But did you know that they choose a “Color of the Year”? The color for 2012 is Tangerine Tango (Pantone 17-1463). Look familiar?

I’m off with a girlfriend tonight for a night on the town, but hope to play around with my new phone this weekend. Do you have an iPhone? If so, what are your favorite apps? Any tips? I hope you have a great weekend!

Seattle Roadtrip

15

03.1.12

I’m back in Canada! I know, I didn’t mention I was leaving, did I? Jason and I were able to steal away by ourselves to Seattle for three wonderful days. It had been way too long since our last visit!

Any good road trip needs reading material! Sibella Court’s Etcetera was in my stocking this year, since I loved her latest book so much. It was the perfect companion for our relaxing trip.

Pattern and texture are hidden everywhere – but they really pop in the city.  I was hoping that we’d see these yarn bombed trees that Janis mentioned, and we did! Aren’t they amazing!

I was eager to pop into the newly opened West Elm, (thanks to Michaela’s post!) and happily took home a couple of these lamps! I’ve been hunting for the perfect bedside lamps for the master bedroom forever! Finally, progress!

I’m always on the hunt for yummy food when I’m on holidays. Any restaurant that dedicates a portion of their printed menu to gluten free pancakes and french toast ranks high in my books! It was easy to see why Portage Bay Cafe‘s large space was packed out… fresh, organic, and local food. So good! (This pic shows the space decked out for a catering event… so just picture it without the tablecloths. 😉

All you design lovers out there would love Kobo – a fabulous discovery! Design books, art, Japanese ceramics, silk screened t-shirts, letterpress calendars, etc. This is the kind of store I always hope to find when I’m wandering in a different city! I took home this little robin print mounted on wood by Seattle artist Cody Blomberg.

Welcome to the New Year everyone!

Gifts for Ninja Lovers

2

14.12.11

Are there any other ninja lovers out there? I’ve got a couple at this house, and so I loved to see Anthology Magazine feature these fantastic Ninjabread Men Cookie Cutters, which I ended up finding at my local Chapters Indigo!

I bought Namu’s “We are Ninja’s” T-shirt at the One of a Kind Show last weekend. If you missed the show, you can still find this on her Etsy shop!

This poster will be rocking Jason’s office… I originally saw it in Interior Design, and it’s now available to purchase on Zazzle.

Jason has been banned from reading my blog until Christmas has passed, just in case you were wondering why I was posting about future gifts. 😉

Weekend Happenings

12.12.11

My Christmas cards are now being stocked at Heather Ross [In House]! I was waiting to tell you until I had a picture of my cards next to one of her beautiful vignettes, but with all the sickness at our house I haven’t made it downtown during the day for quite a while!

The Fieldstone Vintage Market, put on by Birch & Bird’s Rachel & Lily and held at the EcoDairy, was something I missed out on last time around because I was in New York… so this time I took all my boys out to Abbotsford to have a look. I have to admit that I saw more of the cows than the crafts, but still, I was glad that everyone had a good time!

I spent Friday night shopping at Vancouver’s One of a Kind Show… and came home with this amazing cowl from Kove. Love their stuff!

On Saturday I met up with the Canadian Design Bloggers West at Jodi & Darryl‘s gorgeous home. We collected a pile of food under the tree for the Food Bank, and money towards the Union Gospel Mission’s Christmas Dinner. A great time, and a great reason to get together!

I hope all your holiday activities are helping to put you in the Christmas spirit!

Warming Up For Winter

05.12.11

I recently discovered Sparrow & Co. & The Original Pop Up Shop, both out of the UK, and I had to share these gorgeous pictures! They make me want to cozy up with some tea by a fire.
