I have had The Wizard of Oz on my mind lately. These are just some of the posters designed by Christian Jackson depicting various children’s stories! I’m inspired by how much he communicates with so little. Simply perfect!

Which one is your favorite?

Today I’m really excited to share a poster that I’ve designed for kids! Based on the famous quote by Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, “Lions & Tigers & Bears, Oh My!” is the first in a series of typographic poster designs that will be making their way to my Etsy shop soon!

This one is available now over at Flutter Flutter Studio!

Lego – Imagine

Today was our second day spent at Legoland California, so it seemed fitting to share these great minimalist Lego ads with you! Ernie & Bert, The Smurfs and The Simpson’s are just some of the characters Jung von Matt brought to life using only a few pieces of Lego. If your home is overrun by Lego as ours is, then you’ll understand why I want to show this to my kids! Less is more!

Race to the Weekend

26.1.12

It’s a race to the weekend for different reasons this week! Our youngest is turning 5 on Saturday! And Friday is a Pro-D Day! Yikes!! So far I’ve been working on race car invitations, and license plate thank you notes to attach to the take home gifts, as well as planning some pretty fun race-themed food! I’ll be back on Monday to share some pics of the big event! We’ll be hosting the kids party in the morning, followed by a party for family in the afternoon, so I imagine that we’ll all be crashing hard on Sunday.

Do you have exciting plans for the weekend? Know any good party games?

Whatever you’re up to, have a great one! I’ll see you on Monday!!

Thankful

How was your weekend?! I was happily designing logos this weekend. For the last seven years I have almost exclusively worked on graphic design projects in the evenings after the boys are in bed, but this weekend Jason took the boys out for the afternoon so that I could have some peaceful time alone to work… it was fabulous to not have to rush, and to be able to look up from my work and see some form of daylight outside! (This was the somewhat distracting view from where I was sitting.)

Merry Christmas Everyone!

24.12.11

This is the Christmas card that I designed and sent to family and friends… until I ran out! 🙁 Note to self: Increase the print run next year. I’m virtually sending this to you along with a huge Thank You for stopping by my blog and leaving your encouraging comments in 2011. To all my blogging friends that I’ve connected with this year, virtually and in person, you have inspired me immensely. To my “real life” friends that read my blog, your support and encouragement means so much! I look forward to another fun year ahead!

Wishing you a Merry Christmas from our family to yours!

Office Organization: Part Two

I spent a wonderful couple of days south of the border this weekend, “back to school shopping” with Alison. At Target, in with the school supplies, I was thrilled to find new designs by Greenroom! Typographic portfolios to help organize! They remind me of the poster in my office, which I also love.

Before I left I found these metal bulletin board strips for a whopping dollar each! I thought that a coat of white spray paint was just what these needed to blend into the wall of my office. I’m going to use them to display past jobs, future inspiration, and sketches that I’m working from… just need to find some of those tiny little magnets to replace these overpowering bad boys.

The boys are back to school in one week!! I’ve got a lot more to organize than just my office! Time to get on it! Let the countdown begin…

The Big 4-0!

If you’ve wondered why I’ve been blogging less, other than the fact that it’s summer, this is the answer! I have spent all child-free moments planning for the parties that happened here last weekend. On Saturday the family party started early so that the kids could help celebrate Jason’s 40th birthday! And, keeping with tradition, my mom brought one of her delicious homemade birthday cakes.

Saturday evening was a backyard BBQ with good food, friends, and a fire in the firepit! Yes, you can see the finished patio in all it’s glory to the left of Jason, where he sits eagerly awaiting cupcakes by the fire. We still need to landscape, but it’s done!! It was great to have the parties in our backyard to break in the patio!

With Style & Grace, my go-to food blog, was the inspiration behind these Caprese Skewers that I served up as an appy that night. I took the pic before I drizzled on the balsamic, but you get the idea… very yummy, and so pretty!

Today we are celebrating another big 40th! It is my mom & dad’s 40th wedding anniversary!! I made up this card in honor of the big day! Congratulations to you both!!

Type Tuesday: Coming Up Yellow

16.8.11

Maybe it’s the sunny weather we’re having, or just the fact that yellow is such a great accent colour for the ever popular grey, but everywhere I look I’m seeing yellow. How about you? Are you a fan of yellow too?

I want this poster for my man. It’s his as soon as Johnny&Stacie relist it!

I don’t like gin, but I like this fun print from Etsy seller dearcolleen.

We all know someone that rocks socks with sandals! I’ll resist the urge to give this card to my dad… don’t want to jeopardize future woodwork projects!

Here & There: Lighting

13

06.7.11

I’m adding a new feature here at flutterflutter, called “HERE & THERE”, where I’ll feature some of the awesome finds available “HERE” in Vancouver, and other cities, along with pics showing how they’ve been used to style rooms “THERE”, in the land of design inspiration. Hopefully it will give you some ideas for mixing different styles into your own decor!

With some child-free time last weekend, we took to the streets of our favorite Vancouver haunts to see what we could find… it was a great day for modern lighting! ReFind on Main & Your Fabulous Find (1800 block of Main St) were the sources for all of these lights.

Happy Treasure Hunting!!

PS – Let me know if anyone picks one of these awesome lights up!
