Visiting Portland

I just arrived home from five fabulous days in Portland, Oregon with my friend Kelly. We hopped aboard Amtrak for the trip down and it was great! Other than the extended travel time I much prefer it to flying. I loved Portland! The people there were so friendly, and the transit was almost entirely free, and the food… I could go on and on.

I may have done some serious damage in the Macy’s shoe department. Between 35% off, no tax, and an abundance of size 11 shoes, I was destined for success. 😉

The weather was pretty similar to Vancouver… mostly rain… so I was thrilled to discover Savor Soup House in amongst all the fabulous food carts. Tasty, and with gluten free options!

We flew home in the smallest plane I’ve ever been on! I’ve never walked on the tarmac to get to my plane before! We saved the quick route home for the end of the trip – it only took an hour to get back to Vancouver!

Have you been to Portland before? Any favourite stores or restaurants? I’ll be sharing more of mine soon!

Hope you had a great weekend!

Welcome home Rosa! Isn’t Portland great? Part of the experience when going out of town is the trip getting there and back. I agree trains are fun but I prefer flying…. Those planes are crazy small… I took a seaplane once, now that is something everyone should do. Can’t wait to see what you got up to.

Small but great, we fly those all the time between Nanaimo & Vancouver….beats walking 🙂 We’re off to Seattle next week – too bad they don’t make size 11 in Canada eh!!

I’ve never been to Portland before, but your post makes me want to go! Your comment about the plane made me laugh. Those planes were the story of my life growing up and living on the Charlottes. Your photo made me feel a little nostalgic, but I have to say, when the weather is wet and windy, there’s no replacement for walking down the enclosed tunnel to board a plane! I’ll take that over the tarmac any day!!! Thank you for this little moment 🙂

Nice, Rosa! Can’t wait to see what else you post from the trip! Sooo great! I would go back in a second.

I’ve been to Portland once, and can’t wait to go back. Looking forward to see what treasures you found!

Jan went there for school years ago and he loved it too! I’ve always wanted to take the Amtrak…how long did it take and what was the cost? What a great get away!! Glad you had fun!

    • Rosa

Amtrak was less than $90! Cheaper than paying for gas!! 🙂 You should go… you would LOVE it there. We shaved an hour off of our travel time by taking the bus to Seattle and the train from there. Also, it allowed us to stop and have lunch in Seattle. The total travel time was 7 hours. 7 relaxing, quiet, hours. 😉

Fu-un!! Portland is definitely on my must-travel list, so glad to hear you enjoyed it! I can’t wait to go sometime.

Happy birthday, Rosa! It sounds like you’re having wonderful celebrations! I love Portland, especially the Rose Garden and Powell’s book store. It’s probably where we would have lived if my huge family didn’t live in the Twin Cities. Can’t wait to visit there again.

And now I’m off to order your sunshine print for Tim’s Father Day present!

    • Rosa

That’s great Shannon!! I loved Powell’s Books too. I didn’t really see the rose gardens, we were too busy shopping and eating! lol

I LOVE Portland!! Went there just a few months ago. No tax and free transportation.. what’s not to love>! I love VOODOO doughnuts when I go. You’ll have to try it out!

Oh, and that picture of a trillion macy’s bags makes me happy 😉
